Kate retrieved a drive and paperweight-like drive/device from the UE compound. The AI helped to decrypt the files and uncovered these notes, headlined under RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT, with the obvious UE logo/symbol~~/smiley face on it~~.

As space and robotics is not my area of expertise, this is more or less an outline of what was in these drives. For further clarification on something in these notes you are free to ask me, however; asking a mod might be better as I would just parrot back whatever the mods are going to answer for you.

RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT
UE'S RESEARCH INTO SPACE & OBJECTIVES

general: the UE has been researching space and its potential for about a year, sometime after March of 3312 and October of 3312.
has poured time, effort and resources into robotics — all have been space related (i.e.: the rovers).
these research notes also indicate that not all exploration is necessarily intra-universe extraterrestrial exploration, but that "recent incidents" have lead toward the necessity of "rovers with high functioning capacities, and quick reaction times" to prove suitability of worlds accessed, as all are not (in these notes) indicated as being human safe to inhabit.
interestingly, however; while robotics have been researched for years, the notes reveal only recently has the limit on resources allocated been lifted. It's more theory than anything mass produced, as a majority of the funding went into Project Chimera, due to exploitable renewable resources: people. (Those fuckers.)
Project Chimera may see crossover in the future, but outside factors inhibit organic measures being used to circumvent harsh alien environments.
it's been a hellish struggle to obtain government approval for the robotics and space research division. It was considered "nonviable" to get into space previously; the only expense was the "shuttle". Its objective was supposed to be used to mine for metals.
this completed shuttle has been used to follow after rovers to bring home ore for further breakdown planet-side.

UE'S RESEARCH INTO GENETICS

Chimera had interests and had been in talks about using gene therapy to tailor soldiers and colonists to best handle adverse and varied environments.
have recently drawn their attention to other genetic projects in the hopes to make significant progress in this area well ahead of schedule. Is pre-existed by dozens of years in other such genetic projects. This one dovetailed with the colonization project between March and October last year.

BUT WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

very bad news for the Initiative and Transports.
the UE has workable rovers and had a shuttle. The Initiative had successfully stolen said shuttle and it is currently the one Transports used to get to the moon base.
but the rover problem is that they might be somewhere out there already or they are on the verge of being launched.
it is unknown how much time they have before the UE investigates the moon base survivors, or what they will do.
Transport genetics aren't expounded on, but anyone who fought the meta children can and may make the logical leap the UE's made progress in that field.
